Today I will:
"Blessed is the man who trusts in the LORD, whose trust is the LORD. He is like a tree planted by water, that sends out its roots by the stream, and does not fear when heat comes, for its leaves remain green, and is not anxious in the year of drought, for it does not cease to bear fruit.” Jeremiah 17:7-8 (ESV)
The Hebrew term for "peace" -shalom-is a powerful concept if we can get ahold of it for our lives. For many, peace means simply the absence of conflict and strife, which is a good thing; but the concept of shalom goes beyond that definition to mean not only lack of conflict, but also an active element of goodwill-not only will I not attack you, but as far as is within my power, I will also be a blessing to you.
In any workplace, crises are not uncommon. In fact, most businesses face them on a regular basis, if not as a normal part of their day. Deadlines, production schedules, meetings, changes in the marketplace, or any number of demands can lead to a need to "get things done NOW!" Even worse are the dreaded words: "We are going to have to stay until this is done."
For those who trust in God, however, there is no need feel anxiety in the midst of any storm. We know that we will make it safely to the other side. Yet even if we are under attack in the midst of the situation-our supervisor dumps his or her stress on us, or everyone is running around and short-tempered-do we have to do the same? Or can we radiate blessings while others can do nothing but curse? Those who trust in the Lord-whether in times of high heat or barren periods of drought-can still bear good fruit if their roots run deep in God's goodness and love.
